As of December 2024, the Fantom Foundation has initiated the migration of the Fantom (FTM) token from the Fantom Opera network to the new Sonic (S) token on the Sonic network.
Overview
Migration Rate: 1:1 (FTM to S)
Deadline: No set deadline; FTM on Fantom Opera remains operational for the foreseeable future
Migration Tool: Sonic Labs' upgrade portal
Wallet Requirement: MetaMask (or compatible Web3 wallet)
Migration Steps
1. Set Up MetaMask
Download and install MetaMask from metamask.io.
Set up your wallet or import an existing one using your secret recovery phrase.
2. Add Fantom Opera Network to MetaMask
Open MetaMask and navigate to Settings > Networks > Add Network.
Enter the following details:
Network Name: Fantom Opera
RPC URL: https://rpcapi.fantom.network
Chain ID: 250
Currency Symbol: FTM
Block Explorer URL: https://explorer.fantom.network/
3. Transfer FTM to MetaMask
If your FTM is held elsewhere (e.g., another wallet or exchange), transfer it to your MetaMask wallet on the Fantom Opera network.
4. Access Sonic Labs' Upgrade Portal
Navigate to the Sonic Labs upgrade portal.
Connect your MetaMask wallet when prompted.
5. Initiate the Migration
Once connected, specify the amount of FTM you wish to migrate.
Confirm the transaction in MetaMask.
The portal will swap your FTM for S tokens at a 1:1 ratio.
6. Add Sonic Network to MetaMask
To view and manage your new S tokens:
Go to Settings > Networks > Add Network in MetaMask.
Input the following details:
Network Name: Sonic Mainnet
RPC URL: https://rpc.soniclabs.com
Chain ID: 146
Currency Symbol: S
Block Explorer URL: https://sonicscan.org
