A quick-start guide to setting up & utilising social recovery of your Easy Crypto Wallet

🚨Important Note: Easy Crypto’s wallet is self-custodial, which means that creating a backup is crucial for safeguarding your digital assets.

If you lose access to your wallet (due to device loss or malfunction for example), a backup will be the only way to retrieve your cryptocurrencies.

What is social recovery and how does it work?

The Easy Crypto Wallet has 2 different methods of backing up your wallet, a Seed Phrase or a method known as Social recovery.

This allows the Easy Crypto wallet users to recover access to their wallets through a selected network of trusted friends or family, known as Guardians.

You can add 3, 5 or 7 of your closest contacts to your social recovery crew. The more you add the safer you are as there are more people placed to help you should you need to recover your wallet and crypto.

Each of these individuals will be approving the recovery of your wallet and will receive a notification to do so, which they will then need to action for the recovery to go ahead.

💡Important Note Your recovery contacts can only approve a recovery request, not initiate one. In addition, we will contact you via email and through the app to ensure you are aware that a recovery process has been started, giving you the opportunity to cancel the recovery.

How to Set up Social Recovery

To get your social recovery back-up ready for use, complete the following steps...

  1. Sign in with your existing EC credentials or create a new account

  2. Follow the on-boarding steps to set up a wallet

  3. You’ll be asked to backup your wallet, select social backup

  4. You’ll be asked to add 3 or more guardians.

  5. Your selected guardians will get an email to accept.

  6. Once all of your guardians have accepted, you should then see a green tick indicating a successful backup

I've lost or damaged my device, what do I do?

To recover a wallet you have lost access to using social recovery, please complete the following...

  1. Download the Easy Crypto Wallet app to your new device.

  2. Login in using your Easy Crypto account details.

  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the social recovery of your wallet.
