🚨Important Note: Easy Crypto’s wallet is self-custodial, which means that creating a backup is crucial for safeguarding your digital assets.

If you lose access to your wallet (due to device loss or malfunction for example), a backup will be the only way to retrieve your cryptocurrencies.

🚨Easy Crypto cannot reset this!🚨

Since version 1.6.5 of the Easy Crypto Wallet app, we have improved cloud backups to be even more secure and convenient. You can read our FAQs on improved cloud backup and recovery here.

We'll take you through the steps to backup securely to the cloud below.

How to Back Up your Easy Crypto Wallet using iCloud (for iPhones) or Google Drive (for Android devices)

When you first download the Easy Crypto Wallet, as part of the onboarding journey, you will be asked to enter your mobile number. The code serves as an additional security factor, to ensure only you can recover your wallet in the future. You will receive a code from Easy Crypto to confirm your number.

If you have trouble receiving the SMS code, alternatively you can set up a passkey, a highly secure and convenient alternative.

Once your second security factor has been set up, the app will generate a new wallet for you and you'll be prompted to backup securely to the cloud.

As part of the backup, we store a recovery file in your iCloud Drive (for iPhones) or Google Drive (on Android devices). You can read more about the recovery file and security in our FAQs.

When you tap on the 'Backup recovery file now' button on iPhones, the file will be stored in your iCloud Drive. On Android devices, you will see an additional system prompt where you can select the the Google account you want to use to store the recovery file in.

🚨 Important Note: Please use a personal Apple ID or Google account that you will have long-term access to. Avoid using an account that you may lose access to in the future (e.g., a work account if you change employers), as this could result in the loss of your recovery file and crypto.

After the recovery file has been stored successfully, you will see a confirmation screen.

You can also confirm the file has been stored by:

  1. Open your iCloud Drive (on iPhones) or Google Drive (on Android) and look for the 'DO NOT DELETE Easy Crypto Wallet Backup' folder. The folder should contain a recovery file for each wallet you backed up.

  2. Additionally, on the homescreen of the Easy Crypto Wallet app, tap on the gear (settings) icon next to your wallet name, tap on 'Backup' and you should see a green tick next to 'Cloud backup'. Which means the app can access your recovery file.
