Understanding your .ecp file wallet
The Easy Crypto .ecp file wallet was a cold wallet, which was offered prior to May 2020 as a safe type of wallet to store crypto in. 💼
This is because cold wallets are 100% offline, meaning that they are protected from unauthorized access, cyber hacks, and other vulnerabilities that a system connected to the internet is susceptible to. The downside to a cold wallet is that there are no moving parts, and no software attached.
The result of this is that you can't send directly from a cold wallet - but you can import your wallet into a hot wallet where you can send from.
Cold wallets are made up from a pair of keys; a public key and a private key.
Your public key is like your bank account number, and your private key is like your account password.
Another analogy would be that your cold wallet is like a PO Box. People can send you mail to your PO Box, and you can use a key to unlock it to retrieve the money, but you can't send mail directly from your PO Box.
People can send you crypto to your public address, and you can access your funds using your private key, but you can't send from your cold wallet.
Unlocking your .ecp file Wallet
If you are able to find the email that was sent to you when you first got the .ecp file wallet, then you can go through these steps to access your crypto.
Please take extreme care when doing this and ensure that all security scans and software is up to date on your device.
Step 1: Save your .ecp file wallet to your computer
You first need to save your .ecp file wallet attachment out of your email.
Step 2: Head to our unlock page
Step 3: Select your .ecp file
Once you arrive on the page, you should see an option to Unlock your .ecp file wallet:
Click on Select file and choose the file you saved in Step 1.
Enter your passphrase. This is the seven-word phrase that you had to write down when you placed your order.
Click the Unlock button.
Your wallet should now be unlocked and your balance should display! 😁
How to sell from the retired .ecp file wallet
You have two options here, depending on how much you want to sell:
1. Do you want to sell some or all of the balance, and you're happy to manage it yourself?
or...
2. Do you want to sell the entire balance of that wallet and you want us to handle it for you?
1. I'm happy to manage it myself
You currently have your crypto stored in .ecp file wallet. This is what's known as a "cold storage" wallet, meaning that its the safest method of storing crypto. The reason it's so safe is that it has no software and no moving parts.
The downside of this is that you cant send from it. Since you need to send crypto to sell, you are going to need to move your crypto into a 'hot wallet'.
This is a very easy process and can be done using the Exodus wallet:
🚨If you are already an Exodus user, you will need to complete this process on a different device that does not have your existing Exodus wallet synced to it (as the following may override your current wallet).
Head over to the Exodus site and download the wallet - Click Here
Use the Unlock Page on the Easy Crypto website using your 7-word passphrase to gain access to your ecp. file wallet- Click Here for detailed instructions.
From your ecp.File wallet, you should now have access to the 12-24 word passphrase required to recover the wallet into Exodus.
Open Exodus and recover the wallet using the 12-24 word passphrase you just acquired.
Allow Exodus some time to import the balances. Once you have Exodus all set up, you can now create a sell order on our site.
2. I want Easy Crypto to handle it for me
This option will sell the entire balance of your wallet. We cannot sell part of it for you.
It will also require one of our team to make the trades for you, and we can't guarantee when that will be.
If you want to ensure you get the current market rate, do not use this option. It could be days before we are able to get to it.
